Flange coupling is a rigid coupling. It connects two flanged half couplings to the two shafts with ordinary flat keys, and then connects the two half couplings into one body with bolts to transmit motion And torque.

This coupling has two main structural forms:

1. Rely on the reamed hole and use bolts to realize the two-axis alignment and rely on the bolt rod to bear the extrusion and shear to transmit the torque; 2. Rely on the shoulder on one half of the coupling and the other half of the coupling The grooves are matched and centered.The bolts connecting the two half-couplings can be B-grade ordinary bolts, and the torque is transmitted by the friction moment of the joint surface of the two half-couplings.

Pros and cons

Rigid couplings are divided into flange couplings, radial key flange couplings, sleeve couplings, clamping shell couplings and parallel shaft couplings. The flange coupling is neutral to the two shafts. The requirements are very high. When the two shafts have relative displacement, it will cause additional load in the machine parts and worsen the working conditions. This is its main disadvantage.Advantages: But due to its simple structure, low cost, and large torque transmission, it is often used when the speed is low, there is no impact, the rigidity of the shaft is large, and the neutrality is good.
