What Is Clamp Coupling?
Clamp couplings are mechanical connections that connect two shafts, hoses, or pipe units. Clamp coupling is also known as split muff coupling. They are used in various applications. They are usually made of ductile iron or steel. They are highly rigid and provide good alignment accuracy. However, they are not suitable for high-speed applications. They also require very little installation space.
These types of couplings are available in split or two-piece designs. The two-piece design has greater axial load capacity than other couplings. This allows for easier radial assembly.

How to Install a Clamp Coupling
Clamp couplings are used in many industries. They are easy and quick to install and allow you to connect two shafts together. They are made from a variety of materials including stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum. They are also compact and easy to use. You can choose from a variety of designs, from split to rigid.
The installation process for shaft clamp coupling starts with inserting the hub into the star openings at both ends. The drive tenons must face each other when inserting the hub. You can then use a torque wrench with a hex head to tighten the hub so that the misalignment angle is centered along the length of the coupling.
Once the misalignment is centered, you can start adjusting the three-piece clamp for proper alignment. Using a torque wrench, tighten the center screws on the hub until they reach half the recommended installation torque. After this, you can adjust the cam lever to the desired position. This may require a few turns of the tensioning screw. Then you should check the torque. If the clamp is oversized, you may experience excessive resistance. You should also remove the shim stock from the torque plate groove to allow axial movement.
Once the jig is properly adjusted, it is ready to assemble. The hubs must be tightened in two steps, maintaining the gap between the hubs.

There are two types of clamp couplings: rigid and flexible. The rigid type consists of a sleeve divided into two axially symmetrical halves. Each part is clamped with bolts. This creates friction, which transmits power between the two parts. Rigid versions are available for high-speed applications. Flexible versions reduce vibration and shock loads and eliminate misalignment.
